Pressure Die Casting

Pressure Die Casting is a metal casting process that is characterised by forcing molten metal under high pressure into a mould cavity. The mould cavity is created using two hardened steel dies which have been machined into shape similar to an injection moulding tool. Most die castings are made from non-ferrous metals specifically aluminium, zinc and copper.

The casting equipment and the metal dies represent reasonably large capital costs and this tends to limit this type of process to high volume production. The manufacture of parts using pressure die casting is relatively simple involving only four main steps, which keeps the production cost per item low. This process is especially suited for a large quantity of small to medium sized castings.

Pressure Die Cast products are characterized by a very good surface finish (by casting standards) and excellent dimensional consistency.
