Gravity Die Casting

Gravity Die Casting is a permanent mould casting process, where the molten metal is poured from a vessle or ladle into the mould, and the cavity fills with no force other than gravity. This is similar to the production of sand castings although filling the moulds can be controlled by tilting the die.

The advantages over sand castings include better surface finish, and better mechanical properties, which occur due to the relatively fast cooling rates that occur in die casting.

This process is suitable and viable for castings with complex intricate designs and also for castings with small volumes that does not justify using the pressure die casting method of production.
